“Heather and Bud have taken immense care in creating this welcoming and serene space, with beautifully appointed rooms and bathrooms and super comfortable beds” elottto
“This place is a memory maker. The amount of care consideration and detail that goes in to creating this a mermaid get away is amazing, even down to the fully stocked ocean themed shampoos and soaps.” www fri
“Mermaid dreams B&B is no ordinary business. It is the warm embrace of connection, genuinely offered from the heart in the true spirit of Hawaiian Aloha, by two beings who are in devoted service to their guests. That shows through in the smallest of ways from the care and beauty with which the food is prepared and served to the personal tailoring of your specific adventure. Being able to swim with dolphins so close by is unforgettable! They make sure your stay will be one of the most memorable of your lifetime!”
“Unfortunately we have been here only 2 nights because this place here is just amazing. Heather und Bud provide everything to make your stay as much comfortable as possible. The breakfast they offer has a huge selection of fruits and other things including very delicious smoothies. The location is perfect for a snorkeling trip in Kaleakekua bay. And their cat is so cute!” http://thecabinhoteljogja.com/fr-FR/be-en-francais_28-04-2020
“This is going to be a fairly long review…because this place and their owners deserve the best review possible. I want to first give a gigantic ‘Thank you’ to the most gracious, lovely, and detailed oriented owners of Mermaid Dreams… Bud and Heather. jeopardy free online
I will start from the beginning. Randomly, my friend and I found this bed and breakfast on TripAdvisor. My nickname is “Mermaid” and it was my birthday trip. My best friend said ‘I found this place called Mermaid Dreams… it has to be fate’. tiger red
We arrived after hours around midnight Kona time on October 8th. The owners of Mermaid Dreams (Bud and Heather) had everything arranged for our late arrival. We drove up this narrow road into the beautiful mountains of Kona and arrived at this gorgeous home. We were greeted by the melodious sound of tree frogs and the gorgeous grounds of the property. We immediately noticed the immaculate acreage of our reserved accommodations. We retrieved our key that was left out for us and went to our room. Even though we had been traveling 24 hours, we instantly noticed how beautiful, spotless and sanitary our room was. Even through our exhaustion, we were able to observe how nicely kept our room was.
The next morning, we met Bud and Heather for breakfast. What can I say about Bud and Heather?!?! I don’t even know where to begin to compliment the amazing owners of Mermaid Dreams. I could literally write an ENTIRE review on them alone!!! We were greeted by the friendliest and welcoming couple you would imagine, along with a gorgeous breakfast. Breakfast included every kind of fruit you can think of including melon, blueberry, strawberry, starfruit, and local white and pink dragon fruit. There was also a variety of hot and cold cereal with nut and fruit toppings, eggs, bacon, and fresh Kona coffee. They had at least twenty different varieties of homemade local jams to use on your toast. You could even order a personalized smoothie from Heather with whatever you wanted in it!
Heather immediately sat down with us at breakfast and started a conversation while Bud was cooking. Once you meet Heather, you will understand. With her warm, sweet demeanor and soft smile, you can’t help but feel like you are at home. She offered us everything from where to get new towels, borrow beach towels, where the library was, best places to get fresh Kona coffee and even where to swim with dolphins in the morning. This is where I personally realized it wasn’t a coincidence that I had booked Mermaid Dreams.
In my hometown of Ohio, my nickname is ‘Mermaid’. I am a scuba diver, and my love and conservation for the ocean is where I received my name. Heather and I started talking about my nickname and being a mermaid when she revealed her love for mermaids and the whole concept behind ‘Mermaid Dreams Bed & Breakfast’. Here, to my excitement, I found out that Heather is a mermaid herself and swims in her tails with the dolphins every morning. I was so excited to hear this. She then offered to let me borrow one of her many tails and allowed me to use it for my birthday in a photoshoot. What a dream come true!! I didn’t even know this lovely woman, and she was willing to make my dreams come true! Bud and Heather did everything they possibly could to make our first day an incredible experience.
A few days later, we had other arrangements for a hotel in Hawaii. We hated leaving Bud and Heather and our spotless conditions to go to another place. We ended up finding a horrible environment at our new place. We immediately called Bud and Heather at Mermaid Dreams to check their availability for the rest of the week. They instantly arranged for us to have a stay in one of their other rooms for the rest of the week. We can’t even begin to describe how much we fell in love with Bud and Heather and their hospitality. The things that Bud and Heather do for their guests go WELL above and beyond what normal hosts would do. They treat you like family. We were so ecstatic to be back at Mermaid Dreams and were so thankful that Bud and Heather welcomed us back with open arms.
Another awesome thing that these two did for us was helping us to manage our scuba gear. We are scuba divers and usually have a lot of issues with where to wash, hang, and dry our equipment. Bud and Heather again made arrangements where we had a bucket and a hose to wash our gear. Bud even went as far as to buy larger hooks to hang our equipment up to dry for us!
To add to that, breakfast is usually served between 8:00am and 10:00am. But again, Bud and Heather went WAY ABOVE AND BEYOND for us. They got up at 5:30am to pack us homemade blueberry bread, make us fresh smoothies and coffee, and pack us a breakfast to take with us to the dive site. They didn’t have to do any of this for us, but they insisted that they did! How wonderful to have hosts that care so much that they go out of their way to make you a To-Go breakfast so you don’t go hungry?!?! Bud and Heather didn’t have to do any of this for us… but they did out of the kindness of their hearts.
The rest of the week went the same. With Bud and Heather being more than accommodating and wonderful people, we started to question ourselves and what we did to deserve them being so amazing to us. It was hard because we didn’t know how we could possibly return the kindness to them as they had for us the whole week.
Bud and Heather told us all the wonderful things to do in Kona. Starting with what local beaches to go to, to what restaurants were the best. Heather even helped us chase down the dolphins at the local beaches that tourists don’t know about. To end the week, it was heartbreaking for us to say goodbye. We arrived close to the airport (40 minutes away) only to realize we had forgotten our scuba fins and masks at Mermaid Dreams. We called Bud and he instantly offered to drive our gear 40 minutes away to the airport for us!!! What!?!? What other place could you stay at and get this kindness and service!?!?
Bud and Heather made our trip a memorable trip. Hawaii is everything you could dream of. But I am certain that without Bud and Heather and ‘Mermaid Dreams’ I would NOT have the memories that I do.
PLEASE, WITHOUT A DOUBT… DO YOURSELF A FAVOR… AND STAY AT MERMAID DREAMS BED AND BREAKFAST. You will NOT be disappointed.
Bud and Heather… Sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, I can’t thank you enough. You made my birthday trip so special. I love you both so much and can’t wait to come back in April!!!”
“MmmmmerrrrYEAH! This DREAMY Bed and Breakfast is the ideal stay for Mermaid lovers and Mermen alike! This gorgeous home fit for Architectural Digest Magazine is a wonderful way to luxuriate on the Big Island. Close to the bays most known for Dolphins (and Whales when in season – commonly Nov/Dec-Feb/Mar), this private home nestled above Kealakekua Bay has themed rooms completely decorated in Mermaid decor, a tiny gift shop of mermaid must-haves, and a breakfast fit for Mermaid King’s and Queens. The owners Heather and Bud, are the epitome of Aloha “World Class” Hostess/Host Customer Service and their attention to detail from the manicured lawns, fountains, statues, wall hangings, home decor, robes, soaps, and Divinely placed trinkets and treasures is beyond any Mermaids wildest dreams come true. I felt pampered, loved and swimmingly relaxed, delightfully refreshed, and deliciously fed during my one night stay at this dream come true piece of heaven on earth. Will definitely stay here again. Heather herself is a mermaid with her own mermaid tail. Perfect for mother/daughter mermaid get-away vacations whether a resident or tourist. Not to be missed on a trip to the Big Island of Hawaii – Kona side!”
“Bud and Heather, the owners of the mermaid dreams are and her two of the kindest most considerate and detailed oriented people I have ever met while traveling. I’ve traveled over 40 countries and stayed in many many vacation rentals and bed-and-breakfast and this one is one of the best. The property it’s self is a very well maintained lush jungle retreat.
The house is very well-built, no creaky floorboards or squeaky doors here! . The room that we stayed in was downstairs and was beautifully decorated. T the amount of care consideration and detail that goes in to creating this a mermaid get away is amazing, even down to the fully stocked ocean themed shampoos and soaps. Everything has an ocean/mermaid theme. I actually live on the island of Maui and know the volcanic dirt gets into everything…but not into Heather’s white towels, crisp white sheets or white bath matts! I can’t believe how fresh and clean everything was. Usually in Hawaii the damp salty air can make stuff feel mouldy. Not here!
Reason my 11yr old daughter and I came to Kona was to watch the Iron Man. This event starts at 6:30 in the morning. Bud wanted to make it special for my daughter because I’d told him on the phone what meant to me. The taxis were charging a premium and so he offered to drive us into Kona at 6AM. Wake up was 4:30am! He was awake and had scones and delicious coffee ready.
(Who does this!?!)
Our day ended up being a 19hr day!! It was nice to come home to a safe quiet & beautiful environment. The next morning was the first time I had gone upstairs. The breakfast spread they had upstairs was crazy
They had about 15 different types of jellies and honeys to choose from. There were healthy options to eat and a medley of exotic fresh fruit I have only seen at the four seasons resort. The detail and love that went into their food and hospitality is very hard to find anywhere. This lovely couple truly exudes the aloha spirit. I’ve lived in Hawaii for almost 18 years and I know it when I see it.
I don’t want to go on too much but I can’t really stop… Bud had to run an errand in town and therefore offered to drive my daughter and I back to Kona so we could meet friends before our flight back to Maui. He made us feel like part of the family (Ohana for the weekend.
Last but not least I forgot some of my toiletries in the bathroom. I was really sad because as you ladies know, it is expensive to replace these items. No problem! Bud had them in the mail the very next day. Like I said…. 10 stars.
Mahalo Heather and Bud.”
